This allows you to use Disk Utility to wipe your entire drive-or repartition it. In Recovery Mode, macOS runs a special sort of recovery environment. It’ll boot into Recovery Mode, and you can click Disk Utility to open it up. To access the Disk Utility on a modern Mac-regardless of whether it even has an operating system installed-reboot or boot up the Mac and hold Command+R as it boots.
